If you have access to the services of a data analytics team, or are familiar with joining external data, it's best to ask for respondents' postcode.

Input of a postcode is simple for the respondent to enter (4 digits) and quite granular. This means a data analytics team can easily convert this (or ‘zoom out’) to your desired geography.
