It's an exciting time for the Fairfield community, with a hospital redevelopment now underway.
The NSW Government has committed $550 million to the redevelopment. With an additional $80 million from the Australian Government for emergency department expansion, the total project commitment is $630 million.
The master plan was completed in mid-2025, showing the existing grounds and buildings on the hospital site and identifying the best place for the current stage of redevelopment. It also identified areas which could be suitable for future hospital expansion, so there is a consistent and logical plan for the site for decades to come.
The concept design has been finalised following the release of plans in late 2025 for review and feedback by hospital staff and the community. The concept design shows where hospital departments are proposed to be located, how they will connect with each other, and how the new facility will link to the existing hospital.
The feedback received to date has enabled the project team to also commence the schematic design phase, which focuses on department layouts. These plans will be released during 2026 for staff and community consultation, before plans are further refined to design every individual room and space in the new hospital building and refurbished areas.
Community and staff feedback is playing an important role in
shaping the Fairfield Hospital redevelopment. Ongoing consultation with
clinicians, staff, community members and Council will continue as the design
progresses to ensure the new hospital meets the needs of Fairfield’s growing
and diverse population.
A planning application for construction and operation of a new, permanent five-storey car park facility on the Fairfield Hospital campus was on public exhibition from 4 March to 2 April 2026. All submissions will now be considered as part of the determination process.
Late 2025 saw staff and community get a ‘first look’ at plans that show the proposed layout of Fairfield Hospital’s new clinical services building. The concept design shows where hospital departments will be located, how they connect with each other, and how the new facility will link to the existing hospital.
A planning application for proposed early works to prepare the site for redevelopment was on public exhibition until Friday 19 December 2025. Submissions have now closed and the application has been determined. Approved works commenced in March 2026 and include expansion of existing parking areas to support current parking levels during future construction activities on site.
A new clinical services building would be located within the redevelopment zone at the front of the hospital. The size, location, design and mix of services will be finalised as planning progresses. The total number of campus parking spaces will be maintained or increased throughout the various stages of construction, with almost 500 additional spaces being delivered on completion of the project. This will be achieved through delivery of early works to expand ground level parking areas (construction underway March to June 2026), and future works to construct a five-storey car park (pending development approval).
