An investment in the future

Community members and staff at the recent consultation sessions
It's an exciting time for the community with the New Bankstown Hospital master plan now released.
The NSW Government will invest an additional $700 million in the construction of the planned New Bankstown Hospital, bringing the total investment in the new south-west Sydney hospital to $2 billion.
This is the largest single capital works investment in a public hospital in the state’s history.
The new hospital will include an expanded emergency department, operating theatres, intensive care, and services for women and children (including maternity), mental health and aged care, as well as parking.
Talking to staff and community about the New Bankstown Hospital was a priority for the project team following the launch of the plan in June 2025.
Master plan consultation activities included letterbox drops for local residents, staff briefings, and pop-up information sessions at the hospital and at Bankstown Central shopping centre.
The project team spoke to more than 400 staff and community members during the consultation sessions – thank you to everybody who shared their ideas with us in person or online.
Your thoughts on parking, services and accessibility have been shared with our architects and planners, and will help shape the next stage of design which looks at the location of each department and how all the departments are connected.
Consultation with staff and community will continue at every stage of the project, and there will be further opportunities for public consultation later in the year.

Did you know?
One of the main things we get asked is "what will happen to the existing hospital site?"
The existing hospital on Eldridge Road will continue to deliver services until the new hospital is complete.
Once acute hospital services such as emergency transfer to the new building, the campus will be used for a range of other health uses such as community health and day services.
Next steps
The project is currently in the planning stage.
The next major design milestone is expected to be later in 2025 when the concept for the new hospital building is announced.
