You may have noticed increased activity on site—this is because the Richard Crookes Constructions (RCC) project team has arrived, and work is underway on the construction of what will become the largest mental health facility in NSW.
Late last year, RCC was awarded the main contract for the new Integrated Mental Health Complex, a state-of-the-art facility designed to foster recovery in a welcoming, safe, and person-centred environment.
The RCC project team is busy with the groundwork—establishing the site, installing new hoarding, and bringing machinery to site to kick off the build.
The new complex will be directly connected to Westmead Hospital’s Block K via a new link bridge, integrating mental health and other clinical services, including the Emergency Department.
RCC is a family-owned Australian construction company that has been delivering future-focused social infrastructure since 1976.
The company has an extensive track record in health projects across Australia, including the Gosford Hospital Health and Wellbeing Precinct, Wyong Hospital, and the Cowra Hospital Redevelopments.
Senior Project Manager Victor Obeid highlighted that the company’s long-standing experience in delivering healthcare projects provides a deep understanding of the unique needs of such developments.
"The establishment of the team on-site marks a significant milestone, and now we’re full steam ahead with the construction of this state-of-the-art facility," Victor said.
Victor also emphasised the importance of collaborating with stakeholders throughout the project while delivering the project in a live hospital environment.
"We’re excited to hit the ground running, but we recognise the critical role of working closely with staff, consumers, and the wider community to successfully deliver this complex.”
Victor highlighted that building the new complex will support approximately 1,000 direct jobs along with many more indirect opportunities during construction, all while leaving a meaningful social legacy.
“Our goal is not just to deliver a state-of-the-art facility, but also to leave a lasting positive impact on the communities we are working in.”
Construction of the new Integrated Mental Health Complex is expected to be completed in 2027.
