Construction for the new $540 million Integrated Mental Health Complex continues to make rapid progress with the installation of the first crane on-site.
Standing at 120 metres tall, the crane will play a key role in the construction of the largest mental health facility in NSW.
Capable of lifting up to 32 tonnes, the crane is essential for moving heavy materials across the site safely and efficiently.
Project Director Hoss Bidgoli said the arrival of the crane marks a major milestone in the construction of the state-of-the-art facility.
“The installation of our first tower crane is a significant step forward for the project, enabling us to start vertical construction and maintain strong momentum,” Hoss said.
“Bringing in such a large piece of machinery with minimal disruption to the Westmead Health Precinct reflects the careful planning and collaboration we’ve achieved with our stakeholders.”
To put into perspective, a total of 14 semi-trailers and mobile cranes will be used to deliver and install the crane to site for the installation.
A second tower crane is scheduled to arrive later this month to further support the build. Both cranes will remain on site until 2027.
The construction of this complex will include a link bridge connection to Westmead Hospital, providing better integration between mental health care and other services including the emergency department and psychiatric emergency care.
Construction of the new hospital is expected to be completed in 2027.
