More than 500 local community members and staff responded to our recent survey on the hospital redevelopment master plan.
You told us that you want safe new facilities that maintain a strong local connection and reflect the needs of our diverse local community.
Fairfield Hospital Acting General Manager Cara Egan said the outstanding response to the survey showed the importance of the hospital to the local community.
“We are heartened by the number of responses and the positive support for the redevelopment,” Cara said.
“People told us they really value having a hospital in their community and they want to maintain that important local connection as their hospital grows.”
The survey also asked the hospital’s staff about their experience, and they told us that teamwork, support and the ‘family feel’ of the facility makes it a great place to work.
Cara said the survey results will directly influence the plans for the new facilities.
“All the feedback has been provided to the architects and project team to help them understand what’s important to us – we are so grateful to everyone who took the time to share their ideas.”

We also welcomed your feedback in person!
With the release of the master plan, our team was out and about to hear what you had to say.
Thanks to everyone who stopped to talk to us at the hospital and at Bonnyrigg Plaza.
We spoke to more than 150 people and your comments about parking, services, wards and access have been added to the survey feedback and shared with our project team.
Next steps
Every hospital development includes planning, design and construction, followed by a short period where we prepare the new hospital building for patients and staff.
Our next priority is focusing on the design of the new facilities.
Construction will start when the design is completed and a builder is appointed.
We will continue to keep you updated and receive your feedback.

In other news
In other news this month, we continue our "Meet the Team" series and chat to Fairfield Hospital redevelopment Acting General Manager Cara Egan.

You are Acting General Manager at Fairfield Hospital. How are you enjoying the role?
I am so grateful to have been given the opportunity! I am enjoying getting to know the hospital, staff and community and play a part in ensuring that we are providing high quality and safe care for our community.
I am also very excited to be part of there development process, I can’t wait to see what is delivered for Fairfield Hospital and its community.
How long have you been with NSW Health?
I started in NSW Health in 2003 as a very shy occupational therapist at Blacktown Hospital; after a year or so I left and travelled to the UK for a working holiday.
When I got back in 2006, I came to work at South Western Sydney Local Health District and have been here ever since.
What do you like most about Fairfield Hospital?
Fairfield is like a family, I felt welcome and supported from the day I arrived. The whole team are dedicated and committed to providing the best possible care and services for the community and in return the community are so engaged and passionate in their support of the hospital.
What has been your proudest professional achievement?
It is hard to choose one achievement in a varied career but recently I am most proud of the contribution I have made to increasing the profile and recognition of corporate services across the South Western Sydney Local Health District.
Corporate services play such a vital role in the effective functioning of our services but often operate in the background so don’t necessarily receive the acknowledgement they deserve.
In my spare time I...
..love to spend time with family and friends, go on adventures and travel to interesting places.
Which destination is on your bucket list and why?
Svalbard, Norway – I really want to see a polar bear!
