Schematic design is a design phase where layouts for clinical departments and key spaces start to take shape. We invite staff, patients, carers, and community members to explore the current layouts and share your feedback. Your input will help ensure the design supports the needs of staff and the community.

🛏️Inpatient Units (PLACEHOLDER CONTENT)

The Canterbury Hospital Redevelopment project will deliver two additional in-patient units (IPUs). The IPUs patient bedrooms will be located around the perimeter of the unit, to maximise light and views.

LOCATION: New hospital building, Levels 6 and 7

🏥Emergency Department (PLACEHOLDER CONTENT)

The Emergency Department (ED) will be expanded to enhance capacity and support improved models of emergency care delivery. The ED will remain in its current location and expand towards the north east of the hospital campus with a link bridge connection to the new Intensive Care Unit located on Level 3 of the new hospital building.

LOCATION: The new 3-storey building extension, off current ED, on Level 3.

👩‍⚕️Operating Theatres (PLACEHOLDER CONTENT)

The Operating Rooms will remain in their current location on Level 2 of the existing hospital building, with expansion and refurbishment works carried out within and adjacent to the existing footprint.

A new 3-storey building extension will be constructed to support the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) expansion on Level 2. The new ICU expansion will provide three new operating rooms for future use, and will include a range of supporting spaces.

🤰Women's and Babies Services (PLACEHOLDER CONTENT)

Women’s and Babies antenatal clinics will be considered for expansion and enhancement to better meet the needs of the growing and diverse local community. The existing facilities will be enhanced to provide a modern feel.

🚑Intensive Care Unit (PLACEHOLDER CONTENT)

The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) will be relocated to a purpose-built space on Level 3 of the new Clinical Services Building. The new ICU will Increase in bed capacity and will be designed to support contemporary models of critical care, provide a safer and more efficient environment for patients and staff, and improve clinical connectivity with key services.

🫀Diagnostics Services (PLACEHOLDER CONTENT)

The Canterbury Hospital Redevelopment will include a new Diagnostics Services Unit, ensuring the delivery of safe, efficient, and high-quality cardiac care within a modernised environment. The works will improve clinical functionality, patient experience, and service capacity to meet growing demand.

LOCATION: Level 3, existing hospital building. Current ICU space

🩼Ambulatory Care (PLACEHOLDER CONTENT)

Ambulatory Care Services will undergo refurbishment works within their existing location in the current hospital building. The upgrade will improve the functionality, accessibility, and overall environment of outpatient and day treatment services to support high-quality, patient-centred care.

🎓Education (PLACEHOLDER CONTENT)

The existing education centre at the back of the hospital will be moved to allow for the construction of the new hospital building. Once the project is complete, Education and Training will be relocated to Level 4 of the new hospital building.

💻Support spaces (PLACEHOLDER CONTENT)

Back-of-House services, Pharmacy, and Pathology may be incorporated into the new Clinical Services Building to enhance operational efficiency and better support clinical service delivery.
