Transport for NSW is committed to deliver improvements to maritime infrastructure and facilities to help the boating and wider community safely access use and navigate our inland and coastal waters.

The Tuncurry Slipway was closed in 2023 due to structural safety issues and environmental concerns. The facility had deteriorated over time and no longer met modern environmental standards.

A Review of Environmental Factors (REF) has been prepared that will give us environmental approval to construct the Tuncurry Boat Maintenance Facility. Key details of the proposal:

  • Removing the old slipway infrastructure
  • Removing contaminated materials as part of remediation work.
  • Constructing a level bunded hardstand area with new pavement surface and drainage.
  • Installing a 75-tonne boat travel lift. This will accommodate boat sizes up to:
    • 6 metres beam
    • 20 metres Length Overall (LOA)
    • 2.7 metres draft
  • Installing a new 2.4 metre high solid fence or noise wall to provide screen for visual noise and water spray purposes
  • Construction of overwater lift platforms
  • Installing service pontoons and access gangways
  • Installing a commercial wastewater treatment system

Tell us what you think

We have been working with the local council and other agencies during the development of the REF and we would now like your feedback the proposal for the Tuncurry Boat Maintenance Facility and REF.

The REF describes the key features of a dredging project and assesses the potential environmental and social impacts during construction and operation.

Your feedback will help finalise our plans and REF and will be published as part of the submissions report.
