Or is there a need in your community that your local campus could help support? (For example, planned community activities, gaps in local industry, needs for physical or outdoor spaces, etc.) Please ensure your response is de-identified to protect the privacy of individuals and any inappropriate comments and stories will not be accepted.

short fall in training and talent

my business relies on talent. I do not want to be sending my designs to china or any other country for manufacturing and distribution. I want everything based in AU and in my region, yet tafes these days are devoid of effectively teaching, training and retaining talent. why? furthermore you have eliminated the small industries talent, why? the only way AU will ever be what it once was, is to skill up people in those industries, including designer, crafts, engineering, arts etc, things you…

not about the community, about the individual

here is the deal, AU was once the lucky country because it supported its people through education. first rate. hard copy books and course content were provided to all students, text books too, although subsidised or prepurchased before class. There was a learning trail. PLUS, you provided all equipment so all students learnt on an equal playing field. All that gone, biases, and talent who cant afford to learn is lost! its NOT WORKING. esp where high end IT is concerned. And all courses in the…

Misleading enrolment

Enrolled in Certificate IV in Building and Construction. Said it was being run at Moss Vale and turn up to find its online - no teacher in classroom. Finding it difficult to do the content - teacher has been helpful however several class mates have dropped out due to not being able to access teacher in face to face class. After 12 hour day at work, 2 nights a week is a lot to commit and concentrate on. Why didn’t it have a physical teachers when it have a location ? Needs better explanation…

Face to Face HSC opportunities

Years ago, I had the opportunity to complete my HSC through face-to-face learning at TAFE. I was recently shocked to discover that this option is no longer available. While TAFE still offers the course, it is now only delivered online. I understand that many young people prefer completing the HSC in a traditional school environment, but this setting is not always the best for everyone. For various reasons, some students do not thrive in that environment and may perform better in an adult…

Empowering the CALD Community in Cumberland Through Education Pathways

In Cumberland, a tailored aged care training program, led by the CALD Coordinator, helped seven community members from diverse CALD backgrounds secure jobs in the sector. The program, a collaboration between TAFE NSW and local organizations, was designed to address the unique challenges faced by migrants and refugees. It offered English language support, culturally appropriate teaching, and practical work placements in local aged care facilities. The CALD Coordinator ensured that the training…

Apprenticeship opportunity

My Daughter was offered an apprenticeship and being almost 17 in 10 weeks, decided to signup. Unfortunately the Department of Training services decided that we should have a letter of consent from my daughter’s school. My daughter was homeschooled and doesn’t have a school to sign it, so after 3 weeks of deliberations the department of training services, decided to cancel her registration and withdraw. This has to be the most unbelievable case of discrimination one has ever seen. My…

Content and Delivery Failure

I was enrolled in the virtual delivery of the Dip Project Management. The initial activation of the course was very unstructured, with materials needing to be downloaded from teams folders, teams channels not yet set up, online classrooms difficult to get into, and quality of advice quite poor. There were quite a few units of competency, and all of them had at least 2-3 assignments. Each unit had to relate to a different project so there was no consistency or flow because everything was always…

From student to teacher

Began plumbing at Gore Hill in 1995, licensed in 2004. Have also completed courses at Randwick, Ultimo and Broadway which include plumbing, electrical and barbering. Came back as a motivated teacher in 2024 unfortunately I went to wrong place to bring enthusiasm or motivation. I would to love to provide feedback and potentially utilise my strong teaching and training skill set (30 years) but finding the correct person to discuss this with is perhaps part of the problem. There are amazing…
