Sustainable Communities Program: What we heard

10 November 2025

Thank you for the valued insights and ideas you shared in the NSW Sustainable Communities Program Have Your Say online survey.

The NSW Sustainable Communities Program is providing $160 million to projects and initiatives that support and create jobs, establish industry, and support existing industry to innovate and stimulate economic development.

An initial $16.3 million in early investment funding is already helping NSW southern Basin communities boost employment, drive business innovation and support regional tourism.

Earlier this year, the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development consulted with NSW southern Basin communities to ensure future funding reflects local priorities and support needs. More than 130 participants and over 100 submissions helped identify the key challenges, opportunities and priorities for the region.

This feedback is shaping the next funding opportunities for the NSW Sustainable Communities Program, which will focus on:

  • Supporting local businesses and industries to grow and create jobs
  • Funding critical infrastructure to boost long-term regional development
  • Empowering local-led initiatives that improve community participation and wellbeing, and support for Aboriginal economic and cultural participation
