Supporting regional essential services
Share your experiences of essential services in regional communities.
Many regional NSW communities have a shortage of key workers (including teachers, healthcare workers and police).
We’re seeking feedback from regional communities to help us understand your local experiences.
We'll use your feedback to help improve programs and support regional essential services.

NSW should take advantage of the fact that we have a wide variety of climates and environments and promote that to people who want to live with different environments. People, like me who love only have the extremely overpriced ski resorts for a good expectation of snow fall, but with a bit of investment, that could change. Imagine NSW as the (non-skiing) snow capital of the Asia Pacific Beyond that, we have deserts. What experiences can one have in the desert that can't be had in a wetter climate? NSW has plenty of fresh water- The Murray Darling Rivers, Myall Lakes, etc. With a bit of investment, NSW could become Australia's fresh water swimming and fishing capital. Places like Oberon are cooler than the city, so a nice place to live in in summer, and not too far from family, friends, events and services in Sydney. We don't really have an "escape the heat" mentality, which is quite silly considering that Sydney is a very hot city surrounded by mountains. And beaches, so many beaches in regional NSW NSW should take better advantage of our varied climate and environments and use that as a selling point to get people to move to regional NSW

Fund Councils to host welcome BBQs and events so that newcomers can meet each other and form support networks and also meet up with services and special interest groups etc to understand their new community.

I would never have been a teacher without a scholarship to college, in the 1960s. For 2 years of training & a weekly allowance I agreed to go anywhere in the State to teach for 3 years. You took your chances on where. My younger sister went through Uni in a time of no fees. Between us we full time taught for over 50 years. People need financial incentives.

My local Dr surgery gets a lot of patients through it's doors however we have 1 male Dr and that's it, we need a female Dr for womens health, make it appealing to them by making sure they have suitable housing, making them feel super welcome in my regional community they need to know that they will be making a difference in the community they will be working in, my local council had a welcome dinner for all new residents, they should have a welcome meet and greet to any new Drs considering working in the regional areas, because these people will be doing a great service to the local community.
