Strengthening building compliance and enforcement

Reforming building laws in NSW

The NSW Government is working to increase confidence in our building and construction industry.

We are looking at how we can better protect consumers and support workers through our Reforming building laws in NSW consultation.

Have your say on strengthening building compliance and enforcement

The regulatory requirements for the building and construction industry are spread across different laws with the enforcement powers available to the regulator set out in each of the different Acts. To ensure the effective oversight of all building work in NSW, we propose to create a single Building Compliance and Enforcement Act. This Act will create a fit-for-purpose regulatory powers framework that is consistent, modern and effective.

This topic is most relevant to strata managers, strata and community land schemes, owner-builders, builders, specialist tradespeople, engineers, building designers, architects, developers, certifiers, inspectors, fire safety practitioners and building product suppliers and manufacturers.

Whether you work in building and construction or are a member of the public, if you have an opinion on the building industry in NSW, we want to hear from you.

Tell us what you think

To have your say on strengthening building compliance and enforcement, complete the survey below.

Alternatively, to have your say on more than one topic area, we recommend completing the all-in-one survey.

The all-in-one survey allows you to easily skip through all topics to the ones that interest you.

Written submissions

You can also make a submission. This option allows you to give detailed feedback or respond directly to the questions in the regulatory impact statements.

The consultation closes Friday 25 November 2022.
