Have your say on a section 60 development application.
Under the Heritage Act 1977, approval is needed to do works or activities that may adversely impact an item listed on the State Heritage Register. The standard section 60 application is for works and activities that will have, or have the potential to have, a moderate or greater impact on the significance of the item.
The Heritage Council of NSW is seeking public comments on an application (HMS ID 13953) for development at St Mary's Cathedral and Chapter House, which is within the curtilage of a State Heritage Register item (SHR no. 01709).
The proposed works are part of a broader program of upgrade works required to prepare the Cathedral for the 54th International Eucharistic Congress, to be held in 2028, including:
- new public toilets in the crypt
- upgrade of interior and exterior lighting
- enhancement of the functionality of the sacristies
- improved accessibility to the main entries and to the crypt.
