Help inform the remake of the Sporting Injuries Insurance Regulation 2019
The Sporting Injuries Insurance scheme covers severe injuries sustained during sporting activities for more than 225,000 sporting participants across NSW.
The existing regulation supports the Sporting Injuries Insurance Act 1978 and makes provisions for the prescribed:
- Funeral expenses benefit payable in the event of death
- Percentage of permanent loss due to an injury required to be eligible for benefits.
The NSW Government wants your feedback on remaking the Sporting Injuries Insurance Regulation 2019, which is due for automatic repeal on 1 September 2026.
The proposed regulation increases the prescribed funeral expenses benefit in the event of death for sporting participants covered under the scheme.
The key change includes:
- Increasing the amount of funeral benefits from $9,000 to $15,000.
This will enhance support for NSW families who face funeral-related costs when a loved one dies during an eligible sporting event.
No other changes to the regulation are proposed.
