We want your input on proposed safety, access and urban design improvements along Scenic Drive, Budgewoi.
The NSW Government is investing $6 million to improve safety, access and better manage interactions between all road users along the section of Scenic Drive between Wills Road in the north and Ourringo Street in the south, which forms part of the Central Coast Highway.
Transport for NSW is developing a range of improvements as part of this project that would increase safety for all road users in the area. This includes improvements to walking and cycling connections, as well as public transport facilities, to support a shift to more sustainable modes of transport.
Transport for NSW is also looking at urban design options to help create a vibrant local centre with a high-quality transport network, helping improve the amenity of the street environment.
We are considering many options and need to ensure improvements are delivered within the $6 million funding. This means potential safety and access initiatives will need to be prioritised to determine which solutions can be progressed and delivered for the project.
A key focus area of this project is along Scenic Drive between Kalani Street and Alawai Avenue, where the Halekulani Oval, the skate park and Budgewoi West Village are located.
Potential improvements focusing on safety, creating multi-modal connections as well as urban design opportunities to enhance the amenity and quality of the local place, include:
- Implementing a 40km/h speed limit between Kalani Street and Alawai Avenue to improve safety in this high pedestrian area
- Adjusting the Budgewoi West Village car park entry location at Noela Place intersection
- Proposed traffic slowing measures at the intersection at Scenic Drive and Alawai Avenue, such as a raised intersection or roundabout
- Replacing the existing pedestrian refuge outside of Budgewoi West village with a signalised pedestrian crossing and connecting footpaths on the southern side of Scenic Drive.
- Providing end of trip facilities for cyclists
- Removal of the safety barrier
- Additional seating, trees, water filling stations, and improved lighting (which would require changes to the Budgewoi West Village car park).
Additional safety, accessibility, and urban design improvements along the corridor being investigated, include:
- Intersection improvements at Walu Avenue
- Working with Council to prioritise upgrades to existing bus stops, including concrete pads, seating, shelter, lighting and connecting paths.
- Improving safety and access for pedestrians, including additional paths and prioritisation of potential safe crossing points along the corridor
- Upgrading existing active transport infrastructure around Budgewoi Bridge, including providing widened paths, lighting and replacing fencing
- Public artwork including a mural on a bridge pier.
Tell us what you think
Let us know what you think of the proposed improvements by completing a survey or uploading a submission by 5pm Wednesday 13 November 2024.
Feedback will be considered to help refine the concept design and determine which potential solutions will be selected for delivery within the project funding of $6 million.
