We would like to hear your thoughts on the Enhancing Recreational Fishing in NSW Action Plan 2026–2031, to make fishing even better, now and into the future.

Recreational fishing is an important part of life for many people across NSW. It supports local communities, boosts health and enjoyment, and connects people with the environment.

The NSW Government has worked closely with the Recreational Fishing NSW Advisory Council to develop the draft Enhancing Recreational Fishing in NSW Action Plan 2026–2031. This five-year Plan will guide development of future programs and activities to make fishing even better, now and into the future.

The draft Plan aims to:

  • Harness new technologies and innovation to deliver activities that build a thriving recreational fishing sector
  • Foster stewardship of the resource
  • Enrich fishing experiences across NSW
  • Improve access to fishing locations

The draft Plan builds on existing programs and focuses on:

  • Boosting participation and inclusivity in recreational fishing, including for women and people with disabilities
  • Promoting the benefits of recreational fishing
  • Supporting fishing clubs, community groups, and local councils to deliver new initiatives and experiences
  • Increasing access to waterways and improving fishing infrastructure across NSW
  • Enhancing communication, education, and information for culturally and linguistically diverse communities
  • Strengthening the sustainability and resilience of fish stocks and their habitats
  • Encouraging responsible fishing practices and environmental stewardship

Before making your submission, please read the draft Enhancing Recreational Fishing in NSW Action Plan 2026–2031, which outlines the key priorities, deliverables and initiatives of the Plan. This will help you provide more informed and relevant feedback.

Your feedback will be used to develop a final version of the Plan and to help shape the future of recreational fishing in NSW.
