Help make Oxford Street a welcoming and vibrant place

Transport has been listening to community feedback on the proposed Oxford Street East Cycleway. Everyone we’ve heard from would like Oxford Street to remain a safe, successful and economically vibrant destination, though views are mixed about the cycleway itself.

In direct response to this feedback, Transport is asking for your ideas to create a more vibrant and active street. Your input will help shape and prioritise ideas to inform a draft Public Domain and Activation Strategy.

Share your Ideas

Together with the City of Sydney, Woollahra Council, Randwick Council and the Greater Sydney Parklands Authority, we’ve developed some ideas on what could improve the public domain and benefit the local community

Click on each category below to share your idea for a revitalised Oxford Street East. You can upload pictures, links and documents or add text. For each idea, please select a new category. We’ve added the category 'other' for the things we’ve missed.

To acknowledge, celebrate and support our non-Aboriginal, Aboriginal and LGBTQI+ history and communities. This could include planting, artwork and cultural interpretation, or wayfinding and signage.

To help enliven the street and bring visitors to the area both during the cycleway’s construction and when it is open. These events could highlight Oxford Street’s strengths (art and design or fashion and food) or link with established festivals (such as Vivid or Mardis Gras).

To help businesses and their customers prepare for the changes that the cycleway will bring about. These could happen during construction and after the cycleway is open. The ideas could include marketing campaigns and bike readiness courses to encourage people to bike to the shops; business advice, promotions, events and activations.

Including tree planting, seating, lighting, heritage interpretation, play areas and/or landscaping. We’ve identified Barracks Reserve, outside Paddington War Memorial area and Strong Memorial Reserve as places for these upgrades.

Including signage, planting, reduced clutter and public art at Taylor Square and at Paddington Gates.

Including new footpaths, kerb realignments, street trees, seating, lighting, public art, heritage interpretation, wayfinding and bike racks. These could be placed along the route to provide more amenity to residents, businesses and visitors.
