The rail bridge at Old Bangalow Road, Byron Bay requires renewal to better serve the community. The existing timber bridge will be demolished and replaced with a new steel arched bridge.
As part of this project, Transport for NSW (TfNSW) is consulting with the community and stakeholders to understand how the proposed work will impact users and residents ahead of works planned to commence in July 2025.
This project will significantly improve safety, accessibility, and transport efficiency for all road users.
As part of the upgrade, you will see the following improvements:
- A wider bridge to allow for two-lane traffic which will ease traffic congestion and reduce travel times
- An increased load limit from 5 tonnes to 42.5 tonnes
- An improvement to the quality and safety of the bridge to meet the current engineering and road standards.
