UGL Regional Linx (UGLRL), on behalf of Transport for NSW, will be replacing the bridge at Friday Hut Road, Binna Burra and is consulting with the community and stakeholders to understand current bridge use and how the proposed work may impact them, ahead of works planned to commence in late April 2026.

The rail bridge at Friday Hut Road, Binna Burra requires renewal to better serve the community. The existing timber bridge will be demolished and replaced with a new steel arched bridge.

As part of this project, UGLRL is consulting with the community and stakeholders to understand how the proposed work will impact users and residents and to explain the project and its benefits.

This project will improve safety, accessibility, and transport efficiency for all road users.

As a part of the upgrade, you will see some of the following improvements:

  • a wider bridge to allow for two-lane traffic which will reduce travel times
  • an improvement to the quality and safety of the bridge to meet the current engineering and road standards.

Detour

Community consultation in July 2025 identified concerns with the proposed detour option for this project. Following consultation, UGLRL assessed all consultation feedback and multiple alternative detour options, considering feasibility, safety, cost, and flood resilience.

We are now proposing that the most suitable detour option is a temporary bridge alongside the existing bridge on Friday Hut Road. This solution maintains safe and reliable access during the works while reducing travel time and mitigating flood impacts compared to the originally proposed detour.

Tell us what you think

Community and stakeholders are invited to share their thoughts by completing the survey.

Your feedback will inform the ongoing work of UGLRL to address community concerns about the Friday Hut Road bridge renewal project.

The project will be open for community consultation from 16 February 2026 until 16 March 2026.
