The NSW Government is improving accessibility and safety at Canberra Station

The Safe Accessible Transport program aims to make public transport safe, inclusive and easy to use for all passengers, especially people with disability, older people, people with prams or luggage and others who may be experiencing mobility problems.

Key benefits

Proposed upgrade benefits include:

  • resurfacing and regrading sections of the car park
  • upgrading footpaths and landscaping around the car park
  • installing new Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) compliant car spaces
  • installing a new kiss and ride zone
  • line marking for an upgraded taxi zone
  • installing a new roundabout for buses and cars to allow a U-turn
  • modifying existing toilets to be family accessible
  • modifying the fence to allow for seating
  • modifying the ticket office
  • levelling the floor at the main entrance
  • installing a Help Point on the platform
  • regrading sections of the platform
  • installing new seating in the waiting area
  • installing a pedestrian crossing outside the station
  • installing new bus stop shelters and covered bike hoops
  • installing new lighting outside the station
  • providing a dog toileting area outside the station

Community members are invited to have their say on the designs for accessibility upgrades at Canberra Station

Feedback is welcome until 11:59pm Tuesday 31 March and will be considered in the detailed design development.

Project status

Planning and design development is under way for an upgrade at Canberra Station.

Transport consulted with the community and other stakeholders in 2024, inviting feedback on the early concept design. Feedback provided has been considered in the finalisation of the concept design for the upgrade.

Designs for the Canberra Station Upgrade are now available and the community is invited to provide feedback.

While funding is not yet available for delivery of the upgrade at Canberra Station, the feedback we have received is valuable and will help inform the design for future delivery.
