Project overview

The NSW Government has committed $120 million to Blacktown and Mount Druitt Hospital to meet the growing needs of Sydney’s West. This investment will deliver modern health care facilities to serve one of the country’s fastest-growing communities.

The project will:

  • Provide expanded and contemporary acute medical and surgery bed capacity for Blacktown and Mount Druitt hospitals
  • Boost medical bed capacity at Mount Druitt Hospital, reducing the need to transfer patients from Mount Druitt Emergency Department (ED) to other Western Sydney Local Health District facilities.

Project scope

The project includes:

  • 60 additional beds across Blacktown and Mount Druitt hospitals
  • 30 beds at Mount Druitt to support acute medical and surgical short stay
  • 30 beds at Blacktown to support acute surgical and surgical short stay
  • Expanded clinical and non-clinical support service spaces.

Project status

The project is currently in the early master planning phase.

The redevelopment will be purposely planned, designed and built by Health Infrastructure and Western Sydney Local Health District.

The indicative timing of construction work will be confirmed following further planning and design work, including community, staff and stakeholder consultation.
