Help us improve how Apprehended Domestic Violence Orders (ADVOs) support parenting arrangements.
An ADVO is a court order that protects you from your partner or former partner.
Different ADVOs have different conditions, depending on the circumstances. Some ADVOs can prevent your partner or former partner communicating with you. This can be complex, especially when there are children involved. Some ADVOs include ‘Order 6’ which prevents all communication, except when it is about the children.
Order 6 can be confusing and does not always work as it should. This can place the protected person on the ADVO and their children at risk of harm.
Tell us what you think
The Department of Communities and Justice wants to hear about your experience managing parenting arrangements when there is an ADVO protecting you.
In particular, we want your feedback on:
- whether your ADVO stops the other parent from contacting you, except to make arrangements to see the children
- whether your ADVO makes you feel safe
- whether your ADVO helps keep your children safe
- whether your ADVO works well to let you make parenting arrangements that are best for your children
Have your say by completing a survey below by Friday 21 March 2025.
This survey is designed to find out more about your experiences. The information we collect from this survey will not be able to identify you. It will not be shared to personally contact or provide support to anyone. It will only be used to help the NSW Government think about ways to improve ADVOs to keep victim-survivors and their children safe.
