The NSW Government has a vision for Greater Sydney, a metropolis of three cities with liveable and vibrant places.

Getting more people out of their cars and onto their feet or using their bikes will play a key role in revitalising our urban spaces. Greater participation in active transport will also help to:

  • reduce congestion on our roads
  • take pressure off our public transport network
  • improve air quality, and
  • support better health and wellbeing.

Our aim is to encourage walking or bike riding for short trips – walking for distances of up to 2km, and bike riding for distances of up to 10km.

Connecting our whole lives

We know that people want choices in how they get around. Our focus is to ensure that people can be safe and comfortable as they walk or ride to local parks, shops, centres and schools. Exercise is not only good for our health and well-being, it's great for the planet. Being able to ride or walk enables more people to get around easily and provides an appealing alternative to driving for short journeys. This all helps to reduce traffic congestion and car parking demands.

Tell us what you think

We want to hear what you have to say on how we can encourage you to walk, cycle or ride an e-bike (electronic bike) for task related reasons instead of driving. Your feedback will support plans and initiatives to deliver the vision. You can provide your feedback or share your ideas.
