Help inform future procurement policy development for ICT/digital products and services provided to the NSW Government

Accessible websites, software and digital products ensure that all customers in NSW, including those with disability (1 in 6 people in NSW) can use NSW Government services without barriers.

There are established international guidelines for making web content more accessible to people with disabilities. International standards for digital accessibility have been introduced in 1999 and international standards for buying accessible IT have been in place since 2016. In addition, in the USA and EU it is already mandatory for governments to buy only ICT products and services that comply with these standards. We are considering adopting a similar procurement policy for NSW Government.

This policy development will be supported with extensive consultation and it is important to note:

  • This will not happen overnight.
  • This will not happen without industry consultation.

If you are an ICT/Digital business, we want to hear from you

Maybe your product or service is already accessible? Or it’s something you are thinking about for down the track? Maybe you already sell to overseas markets such as the USA where accessibility is mandatory?

Your feedback will help inform our future policy development and help us better understand the market.

Are you a current ICT services supplier to the NSW Government and registered with Buy.NSW?

You should have already received an email from the team inviting you to participate. If you haven’t, please complete this Accessibility for ICT/Digital Suppliers form.
